Dr Chieh-chi Hsieh

Dr Chieh-chi Hsieh was born in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan.

After graduating with first class honour from the Department of Political Science, Soochow University (Taiwan), Dr Chieh-chi Hsieh proceeded to postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom at the University of Warwick (MA), and thereafter, the London School of Economics and Political Science (MSc). After obtaining both his Master’s degrees, Dr Hsieh furthered his research at the Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS), University of Warwick.

During his doctoral studies at Warwick, he was awarded the Japan International Relations Postgraduate Research Fellowship, and the British Association for Japanese Studies Postgraduate Studentship. From 2015-2016, Dr Hsieh was a visiting research fellow at the Graduate School of Political Science and Economics, Waseda University (Japan). In 2019, Dr Hsieh successfully received his Doctoral of Philosophy degree at the University of Warwick.

Dr Hsieh’s research areas include International Political Economy, Regional Financial Cooperation, Regionalism, Regionalisation, Institutionalist theories, Japan’s foreign economic policy, Japanese International Relations, Japan’s politics and economics, ASEAN, and Cross-strait relations. Recently he has published commentaries on international media outlets, for instance The Diplomat, Taiwan Insight, The News Lens.

Dr Hsieh is fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese, Taiwanese, and Japanese.
